What to pack for the three-day Altiplano expedition
A realistic packing list for the Uyuni Salt Flats and the colored lagoons, with nights at 4,300 metres.
The BM-06 expedition pairs midday heat on the salt flats with sub-zero nights in the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. The trick is to dress in layers and travel light: space in the 4x4 is limited and the rest of your luggage stays safe at BlueMoon Café Restobar.
The essentials
- A warm, windproof jacket.
- A hat, gloves and a scarf for the pre-dawn run to the geysers.
- Good sunglasses and factor 50 sunscreen.
- A reusable water bottle: at that altitude you need to drink more than usual.
- A head torch and a power bank: electricity in the shelters is limited.
- Cash in bolivianos for entrance fees, showers and hot springs.
