Perspective photos and the mirror effect: tricks from the driver-guide
Giant dinosaurs, tins that crush people and perfect reflections. How the most famous photographs on the salt flats are made.
Perspective photographs work because the salt flats give the eye nothing to judge size against. With flat ground and a clean horizon, someone thirty metres away looks small enough to fit in a cup. Our driver-guides carry ponchos, dinosaurs and a few basic props, and will lie flat on the ground for you.
- Wear strong colors: red and blue stand out against the white.
- Camera at ground level, with the foreground object very close to the lens.
- For the mirror, still water: early morning or sunset, with no wind.
- Ask for the digital photos at the end of the tour: we send them over WhatsApp.
